Tony DeAngelo is drawing significant attention on the trade market, one day after the New York Rangers announced the defenseman has played his last game with the club.

"We know he's been told to go home and await a trade. There's a ton of interest all of the sudden in Tony DeAngelo," TSN's Darren Dreger reported Tuesday on "Insider Trading."

"I'm told, according to a source, that DeAngelo could be moved within the next few days," Dreger said.

DeAngelo was placed on waivers Sunday after he reportedly got into an altercation with teammate Alexandar Georgiev following an overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He cleared waivers, but Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton confirmed Monday that DeAngelo wouldn't suit up for New York again. Gorton said the organization and Pat Brisson, the player's agent, would work on executing a trade.

New York scratched DeAngelo prior to a pair of contests earlier in the season due to poor performance, and Gorton said the 25-year-old wasn't able to move on from that decision. The GM told him if his name comes up in anything, he'd be placed on waivers.

DeAngelo's social media presence - which has included saying COVID-19 is a hoax - wasn't a factor in his dismissal from the Rangers, though he was spoken to about it, team president John Davidson said Monday.

The blue-liner signed a two-year, $9.6-million extension with the Rangers after recording 53 points over 68 games last season. In 2021, he's notched one point over six matchups.
