Windows get (suboptimally) rearranged when woken up from sleep

I recently switched from macOS to Linux Mint Debian Edition with Cinnamon DE. The transition was pretty smooth all things considered. I even managed to install a theme that looks like windows 95!

In macOS, when the computer falls asleep and you wake it up, all the windows across all monitors are exactly where you left them. Even better, when you disconnect monitors and plug them back in the same way, all the windows that you didn't move go back to where they were.

In LMDE with Cinnamon, when the computer falls asleep or returns from screen saver, instead what happens is that some windows move to another monitor entirely (oftentimes resizing in the process) and others get split between two monitors. Some stay on the monitor, but get maximized. I guess this is a mild problem to have, but it still takes about a minute to rearrange all my windows that moved every time I come back to my computer after a long break.

here's the set up:

• LG 2160x3840 over DisplayPort
• Dell 900x1400 over HDMI to DVI
• Dell 900x1400 over DVI
• Dell 1024x1200 over DisplayPort to DVI

I've looked around, but all the solutions I've found elsewhere involve configuring xrandr (no clue what that is) and seem very specific to the individual on whatever forum it was.

Does anyone know how to keep all windows in exactly the same spot
