How to recover/reset the root password in Manjaro.

Manjaro OS type 64-bit version 5.10.7-3
I have lost/forgotten the root password:(
I hit a wall pretty quick, I tried using command { sudo passwd } to set a new password but that requires knowing the current password.. and as far as research goes I came up empty handed but for one thread which detailed editing partitions in boot grub menu? which ha.. a little outside my wheelhouse.
Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated.
