Cannot get to a virtual terminal from xfce.

Hello there. Yesterday I installed the slackware x86_64 current iso for 8th Feb and all went reasonably well. Today, I noticed that I cannot access the virtual terminals from the xfce desktop using the keystrokes CTRL-ALT-Fn. When I press those keys nothing happens !
In KDE everything works fine and I can use the CTRL-ALT-Fn keys to get to all of the virtual terminals.
Before I installed the new system onto my computer the CTRL-ALT-Fn keys worked perfectly in xfce. That was with a slackware x86_64 current system that was two years old and had not been updated.
Is there a new configuration somewhere that I may have missed ?
I can find nothing related in the logs (Xorg.0.log, messages and syslog).
Thanks.
