Alex Smith is hoping to continue his career during the 2021 season, but the passer's future with the Washington Football Team is uncertain.

The 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award winner wants to keep playing "somewhere," according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, via NBC Sports Washington's Kevin Brown.

Washington would save $13.6 million if it moves on from the veteran this offseason. There are currently two years remaining on Smith's contract, and he's set to make $18.8 million in 2021.

Smith returned to the league after his leg nearly needed to be amputated following a significant injury in November 2018.

Over eight appearances in 2020, the 36-year-old tossed six touchdown passes to eight interceptions. A calf injury late in his comeback campaign forced Smith to miss a few games, including Washington's wild-card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Washington has been looking to upgrade at quarterback this offseason. The team was reportedly involved in talks to acquire Matthew Stafford before he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
