UPDATE: Water main breaks restrict traffic on Charlton and Barton streets
Cold weather appears to be playing havoc again with the city's water mains, causing water problems and creating traffic restrictions in the lower city.
City of Hamilton is currently reporting two water main breaks Wednesday morning. One is on Charlton Avenue East in the area west of St. Joseph's hospital and another is on Barton Street East in Hamilton's north end.
Traffic restrictions and lane closures are in place on Charlton Avenue between James and MacNab streets. In a tweet, the city said that the repairs are expected to be completed by 2 p.m.
A second tweet reports lane restrictions on Barton Street East between Mary and Catharine. This work is expected to be complete by 5 p.m.
