Cannot resume Wayland session returning from console session
by gargamel from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5EB0V)
Hi everyone,
tl;dr: I cannot return to my KDE/Wayland session returning from a console using Ctrl-Alt-F7.
I guess, I am most likely not the first running into the issue and asking questions about it, so there's probably a thread where I should post this --- however, I couldn't find such a thread, here (on LQ). So, please, if there is such a thread, point me there.
I am running Slackware64-current with all updates up to 16th February, 2021. This includes KDE Plasma frameworks 5.79 and desktop 5.21. These are said to include great improvements with regards to Wayland support, so I gave Wayland a try.
In fact, as long as I am logged in to my KDE/Plasma session, everything is stable and smooth. However, when I switch to a console by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 (or F2 etc.) and then want to return to KDE/Plasma by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F7I am facing a frozen SDDM login screen that doesn't allow me to enter my password to unlock my session. I can switch between console sessions and GUI by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Fx, but I cannot return to my graphical desktop.
AFAIK, it's actually a bit special in Slackware that Ctrl-Alt-F7 jumps to the desktop session, as the default for Wayland is assumed to be on #1 (Ctrl-Alt-F1) (if I am not mistaken). Could this be related?
Thanks for any hint how to solve this. A workaround not having this problem is, of course, to use X11 rather than Wayland. However, there are quite a few reports that this version of KDE/Plasma is finally playing nicely together with Wayland. Could you confirm this, or is Wayland (on Slackware/in general) still too experimental?
Thanks everyone, best regards
