Environment Canada has cancelled a winter travel advisory that was issued for Hamilton and most of the GTA on Monday morning.

James MacDonald elementary school on the Mountain is closed because of a power failure. The school says on its website there will be no remote learning for in-person students.

Alectra Utilities reported a power outage in the area from Mohawk Road to Rymal Road and Garth Street to Upper James Street is affecting 1,617 customers. The power was restored just before 9 a.m. and the cause of the failure was not reported.

There are no other reports of school or transportation closures in Hamilton, Halton or Haldimand-Norfolk.. However, Hamilton Wentworth Student Transportation Services reported at least 60 delays in transportation just after 8:30 a.m. Monday because of the weather.

OPP is reporting multiple collisions across the GTA this morning. In Ancaster, Highway 403 southbound at Highway 6 is now clear after all lanes were blocked before 7 a.m.

Daytime temperatures for the Hamilton area will hover around the 1 C mark for most of the day. This will make for heavy wet snow and possibly some rain mixed in.

Have your shovels ready but use caution because the snow won't be as light this time around.

The storm is expected to dump five to 10 centimetres before it tapers off Monday afternoon. The weather agency warns of poor driving conditions for the Monday morning commute. It also says the heaviest snowfall should come between 5 and 9 a.m. Monday.

The unsettled weather will continue Tuesday with periods of snow and a daytime high of 3 C.

Hamilton is recovering from back to back winter storm systems that moved through the area just last week. Some areas of Hamilton reported more than 20 to 30 cm of snow during each of those storms. Schools and other community services were closed last Tuesday because of the weather.
