ElementaryOS not making the most use of RAM?

So I was working on my 2009 mac with elementaryOS installed and I thought, "let me check how much RAM is there". So then I checked the RAM. The RAM was only 2 gb. I thought that I upgraded the RAM recently to 4 GB? So did I install the RAM wrong or is there a bug? :scratch:
