Slackware upgrade RS-232 device issue
by Slack_nub from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5EZWA)
Hello,
I had to upgrade an old computer running Slackware 11 with RS-232 device to Slackware 14.2 at my job. The goal is make it to the latest version but I'm taking mini-steps to see if I can get the basics down before I do a full clean install since I'm a noob. While I was able to upgrade to Slackware 12.0, the RS-232 card stopped working. Here are what my current thoughts on how I can proceed.
There is a backup CD made way back then with SystemRescuecd so I can restore it to running state anytime.
Once I restore it,
Look under /bin, /usr folders and look for files associated with the RS-232 device.
Look for /etc for configuration files to see if any configuration file is associated with the RS-232 device.
Make back up on those files.
Please correct me if I'm making false assumption -
My understanding is that I will need to recompile the kernel with the device driver and place the configuration file under etc to make it work?
Please advice. Thank you.
