The Detroit Lions have had trade discussions with other teams about backup quarterback Chase Daniel, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Daniel spent last season in the Motor City after inking a three-year, $13.05-million contract with the Lions in free agency. The longtime backup is reportedly viewed as an ideal mentor for a young quarterback.

Daniel, 34, has appeared in 69 NFL games and gone 4-6 in 10 starts, but he's perhaps known best for raking in more than $38.5 million over his career despite a limited workload. He's completed 68.2% of his 261 career pass attempts, throwing for 1,694 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Undrafted out of Missouri in 2009, Daniel has split 11 NFL seasons between the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, and Lions.

Detroit has already agreed to trade top quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in a deal that will see Jared Goff join the Lions.
