Washington places franchise tag on Scherff for 2nd straight year
The Washington Football Team tagged right guard Brandon Scherff for the second consecutive offseason, the team announced Monday.
The second tag is expected to cost Washington over $18 million, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The two sides have until July 15 to work out a multi-year deal, which would replace the tag.
Scherff was on track to hit the open market, where he would have been one of the top offensive linemen available. The four-time Pro Bowler is coming off arguably his best season, and was rewarded with his first career All-Pro selection.
Scherff has been a linchpin on Washington's offensive line since being drafted fifth overall in 2015. Only injuries have been able to slow Scherff over the last six seasons, as he's missed multiple games every year since his sophomore campaign.
