The Tennessee Titans released cornerback Malcolm Butler on Tuesday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Tennessee saves more than $10 million against the salary cap with the move, Rapoport adds.

The Mississippi native was set to earn $11 million and carry a cap hit of $14.2 million next season. Tennessee will incur $4 million in dead money, according to Over the Cap.

The 31-year-old started all 16 games for the Titans this past season, tallying 100 tackles, 14 passes defended, and four interceptions.

Butler signed a five-year deal worth up to $61 million in 2018, with $30 million guaranteed.

He spent the first four seasons of his career with the New England Patriots, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2014. Butler rose to fame after sealing the Patriots' Super Bowl XLIX victory with his end-zone interception.
