UPDATE: Police investigating after two men found dead in east Hamilton home

Hamilton police say they are investigating after the bodies of two men were found inside a home in the city's east end on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Det. Sgt. Ben Thibodeau said officers were called to the Woodbridge Road home, between Lawrence Road and King Street East, on Thursday morning for reports that two people had been found dead.

Hamilton paramedic Supt. Dave Thompson said paramedics were initially called to the home for a welfare check.

When officers arrived, Thibodeau said two adult males" were found dead in the basement. He could not confirm if the house was a multi-residential property or a single-family home.

According to Thompson, one of the men was in their 60s, while the age of the other is unknown.

Thibodeau said police are still working to determine if the deaths are suspicious." The coroner as well as the forensic unit were also on scene.

The bodies of both men will be sent for an autopsy, said Thibodeau. Police were still working on identifying the men and notifying next of kin as of Thursday afternoon.

Thibodeau could not provide any additional details on the deaths as it's too early" in the investigation.

A next-door neighbour, who did not give her name, said she heard someone pounding" at the front and back doors of the home around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

By the time she returned home around 1 p.m., the house was surrounded by police tape.

The call to the residence came in just before noon, said Const. Indy Bharaj.

Jim Smye, a longtime resident of the neighbourhood, said police were always" at the house and that neighbours on either side of the house were both pretty scared."

(The neighbours) leave their lights on at night," said Smye, speaking to The Spectator. It's pretty bad."

Thibodeau confirmed police had attended the east Hamilton home for a variety of calls" prior to Thursday.

At the scene, a lone pair of work boots and discarded pack of cigarettes could be seen on the front porch step.
