The former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has told a jury a woman's steamy messages and photos were promising signs they would have sex but he did not assume this would happen when he visited her.

The best-case scenario was having sex with her. The worse-case scenario was I get to introduce myself and that was it," he said in his recorded evidence played at his retrial in Sydney's district court on Friday.
