Report: Jets, Lawson agree to 3-year deal worth up to $47.4M
The New York Jets made their second major addition of the NFL's negotiating window, agreeing to terms with former Cincinnati Bengals pass-rusher Carl Lawson, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Lawson is reportedly receiving a three-year deal worth up to $47.4 million with $30 million guaranteed.
The defensive end was presumed to be a candidate for the franchise tag but Cincinnati ultimately allowed him to hit the open market.
Lawson racked up 8.5 sacks as a rookie in 2017. However, he's struggled to reach those heights since, missing 13 games while registering just six sacks over the last two seasons.
The 25-year-old flashed his old form last campaign. He produced only 5.5 sacks but easily set a career high in quarterback hits with 32 and total tackles with 32.
The Jets needed to bolster their pass rush after finishing 20th in the NFL in sacks with 31 a year ago.
New York reportedly added to its offense earlier Monday, agreeing to a three-year, $37.5-million contract with former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Corey Davis.
