Six places for fried chicken in Hamilton
Craving fried chicken?
Sure, Hamilton has no shortage of fast food choices for that fried chicken hankering. Popeye's, Mary Brown's, KFC all offer a tasty chicken as their specialty. But, if you're looking for more grassroots local birds, try these homegrown options to satisfy the crunch.
1. The Pigeon, 3200 Homestead Dr., Mount Hope. We weren't going to include this one because you can't get it by the piece but man, the fried chicken sandwich will definitely meet that crunch craving. The original" fried chicken sandwich runs just over $10. Pickup only, no phone orders will be taken. Order online. Open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Call only when you are there to pick up your order 289-759-2433.
2. The Coop, 272-274 King St. W., Hamilton or 370 Brant St., Burlington. Fried chicken by the plate or bucket. This southern comfort is available in white or dark meat. A three-piece dinner will run you around $16. A 10-piece bucket is about $40, add fries and coleslaw for $50. Open for takeout and dine in. Hamilton's take out hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday; 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. 289-778-2667
3. Saltlick Smokehouse, 282 James St. N. You can't get a bucket but order their southern fried perfection, two pieces with fries for about $15 or as one of your meats on a platter. Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday. 289-389-MEAT
4. Matty's Hot Chicken, 35 King William St. Chicken by the piece starts around $14 for two pieces and some fries, chicken and waffles, $16. A bucket of 8 with two sides runs around $50. All chicken is made with 24-hour buttermilk marinated, boneless, southern fried dark meat. Open 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Sunday, closed Monday. 905-393-8343
5. Motel Restaurant, 359 Barton St. E. We all think brunch at Motel but what can be better than these menu options; Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffles or Fried Chicken & Fries? Either will run you about $20. A side fried chicken is $6.50. Open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week. 289-396-2384

6. It's fun, funky and amazingly fresh. Hamilton's Festival Cafe, 1013 King St. E. An eight-piece Broaster bucket with fries and one side will run you around $25. You can also preorder off the menu and use the pick up window. Don't forget a funnel cake while you are there!
