Report: Saints expressing interest in Sherman
The New Orleans Saints are showing interest in free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman, reports Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Sherman is unlikely to re-sign with the San Francisco 49ers due to salary-cap constraints. The Saints entered the offseason with the largest salary-cap deficit of any team in the league, but they've since shed most of their excess payroll.
Injuries limited Sherman to five appearances in 2020. He notched 11 pass breakups and three interceptions in a healthier 2019 campaign.
Sherman, who turns 33 on March 30, said in February that he's looking to play two more seasons in the NFL. He would project to start alongside Marshon Lattimore in New Orleans.
One of the top cornerbacks of his generation, Sherman has five Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro nods under his belt. He helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl LIV and made two other Super Bowl appearances with the Seattle Seahawks, winning one.
The Las Vegas Raiders have hinted at their interest in Sherman ahead of free agency, and the New York Jets have also been connected to him since hiring former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their head coach.
