Fire marshal called to suspicious commercial fire on Upper Wellington
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called to a suspicious fire at a commercial property on the Mountain overnight.
Emergency services were called to the property on Upper Wellington Street at Inverness Avenue East around 2:25 a.m. Wednesday.
No one was there when first responders arrived, said Hamilton police Const. Krista-Lee Ernst.
It appears the fire started in the rear garage, she said. It was contained and extinguished.
The road was temporarily blocked because of the number of fire apparatus on scene, but has since reopened.
The extent of damage is not yet clear.
The fire appears suspicious and police were holding the scene Wednesday morning for the fire marshal.
