Broncos, Simmons agree to 4-year deal worth reported $61M
The Denver Broncos and Justin Simmons have agreed to a four-year deal, the team announced Friday. The safety's new contract is worth $61 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Simmons' new deal reportedly includes $35 million in guaranteed money and will make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL.
Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker is currently the highest-paid player at the position, according to Over The Cap, but Simmons' new average annual salary will lift him into the top spot.
Name | Avg per Year |
---|---|
Justin Simmons | $15.25M |
Budda Baker | $14.75M |
Eddie Jackson | $14.6M |
The Broncos applied the franchise tag to the safety earlier in the offseason but have frequently maintained they intend to secure his services long term.
The 27-year-old has been a ballhawk in Vic Fangio's defense. He recorded five interceptions last season, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.
Simmons has picked off 16 passes since being selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
