Report: Steelers' Nelson given permission to seek trade
Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson has received permission to seek a trade, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Nelson is entering the final season of a three-year, $25.5-million contract. He was considered an extension candidate going into the offseason, especially with the Steelers looking to create cap space, but there have been no reports indicating a deal could be in the works.
Nelson signed with the Steelers in 2019 after a four-year stint with the Kansas City Chiefs. He's been strong in coverage for Pittsburgh, allowing only 969 yards and five touchdowns when targeted over the last two seasons, according to PFF.
In 2020, the Oregon State product broke up nine passes and recorded a pair of interceptions.
The Steelers have already lost one cornerback since free agency opened, as slot defender Mike Hilton took a four-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
