Steelers re-sign Smith-Schuster to 1-year deal worth reported $8M

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed star receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to a one-year deal, the team announced Friday. The deal is worth $8 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The new contract has a $7-million signing bonus to go along with a $1-million base salary and includes four voidable years that will lower the receiver's cap hit to $1.6 million in 2021, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Smith-Schuster reportedly took less money to stay in Pittsburgh.

The Ravens offered the 24-year-old a $9-million contract with an additional $4 million in incentives, according to Taylor Bisciotti of the NFL Network. The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly also made a push for the wideout with an $8-million offer that included $3 million in incentives.

"Can't say it enough, I love you, Pittsburgh," Smith-Schuster tweeted. "Came in here a young 20-year-old, and you guys embraced me from the moment I got here. So much love. Had my back thru everything, all the struggles and success. So hard to leave. See you this fall in Heinz."

Smith-Schuster hauled in 308 receptions for 3,726 yards and 26 touchdowns through four seasons with Pittsburgh. He tallied 97 receptions for 831 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

The USC alum came under fire last campaign for his viral pregame dances on opponents' midfield logos. He stopped the ritual after talking with head coach Mike Tomlin.

Smith-Schuster will again lead a promising Steelers receiving corps featuring Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson, and James Washington.
