Report: Falcons signing Davis to 2-year, $5.5M deal
The Atlanta Falcons are signing former Carolina Panthers running back Mike Davis to a two-year contract worth $5.5 million, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Davis will reportedly make $3 million in guaranteed money during the first season.
The 28-year-old is coming off his best season to date, as he carried the load for the Panthers due to Christian McCaffrey's injury issues. Davis made 12 starts in 2020, rushing for 642 yards and totaling 1,015 yards from scrimmage.
He figures to help a Falcons rushing attack that struggled mightily last season. Atlanta relied on Todd Gurley in 2020, but the once-dominant running back failed to make a lasting impression. He averaged just 3.5 yards per carry, the second-lowest figure of his career.
The San Francisco 49ers drafted Davis in the fourth round in 2015. He's shown he can handle a complete workload, tallying 1,531 yards on the ground and 125 receptions over his career.
Atlanta also inked linebacker Barkevious Mingo to a one-year deal, Rapoport reports. A former first-round pick, Mingo has 40 career starts and will bolster the team's depth.
