[SOLVED] SMTP Error 250 2.0.0 Session reset in Alpine, ProtonMail

Hey all,

I'm trying to set up Alpine 2.21 (Debian/Buster) as my primary email program. I thought it would be a cinch, and retrieval has been. ProtonMail provides a bridge that routes through localhost (and apologies if my vocabulary is inaccurate/incorrect: I'm just a hobbyist).

The bridge app helpfully provides a config screen for both IMAP and SMTP settings. Hostname on both is 127.0.0.1. It uses port 1143 for IMAP and 1025 for SMTP. Security is STARTTLS which is default for Alpine afaik.

IMAP setup 127.0.0.1/user=my.email@protonmail.com successfully prompts me for password and fetches my folders from ProtonMail.

SMTP setup 127.0.0.1/user=my.email@protonmail.com will prompt me for a password, but then:
[Mail not sent. Sending error: 250 2.0.0 Session reset]
Many searches later, here I am. From what I can tell, 250 isn't an "error" so much as a system reply. i.e. 250 - This SMTP server response simply means everything went well and your message was delivered to the recipient server. Which is obviously not the case here.

Alpine documentation, at either http://alpine.x10host.com/ or via the manpage, is not entirely clear on whether or not I need to manually configure sendmail. Alpine is writing ~/.pinerc properly; and comments in .pinerc say, under SMTP servers, "If blank: Unix Alpine uses sendmail." And, as just a hobbyist who's fed up with Thunderbird, I don't really want to go mucking around with sendmail... unless I'm sure that's solution.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=xvsFCuYhZQA:z8ej2QhbixU:F7zBnMy latest?i=xvsFCuYhZQA:z8ej2QhbixU:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=xvsFCuYhZQA:z8ej2QhbixU:gIN9vFwxvsFCuYhZQA
