so they make external CPU fans? do they work?

I looked at replacement fans for my Thinkpad T420, which has been unusable for months since it started overheating every time. Couldn't run more than a few minutes without shutting itself down. ...and I found this unexpectedly: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Ext...6553042&sr=8-5.
They make external fans for laptops, eh? That was the first time I've ever seen one. Do they work well? Or are they a gimmick and hence I shouldn't even think of using one? I was immediately interested, because I'm just not dexterous enough to take a laptop fully apart without damaging the outside frame, whatever we call it. I was going to try to open up the T420 and replace the fan, but I might not be able to put it back together in one piece.
