The Dallas Cowboys informed defensive end Aldon Smith they have decided to move on from him after one season, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Smith is currently an unrestricted free agent.

Smith, 31, was reinstated to the league in 2020 after serving multiple suspensions that forced him to miss four seasons. Smith racked up 48 tackles, five sacks, and five tackles for loss in his return to competition.

Prior to his return with the Cowboys, Smith's last contest came in Week 10 of the 2015 season as a member of the then-Oakland Raiders. The former first-round pick spent four years of his career as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, tallying 44 sacks during his tenure.

The Cowboys will lean heavily on star pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence and seek improved play from Randy Gregory and Dorance Armstrong. Dallas recently signed defensive end Tarell Basham during free agency.
