Deaths of mother, toddler at Good Shepherd apartment complex deemed not suspicious

The deaths of a mother and toddler found in an apartment Wednesday afternoon have been deemed not suspicious, police say.

Police responded to a unit inside the apartment complex at 15 Ray St. N. - between King and York near Victoria Park - at around 4:30 p.m. for a compassionate check.

Inside, a 30-year-old woman and her three-year-old son were found dead.

Police say the mother and son had not been seen for a few weeks prior.

An autopsy completed Thursday revealed no foul play in connection with the deaths. The cause of deaths will not be released, police say.

The deceased were tenants at Good Shepherd's Nora Vos Apartments, said Alan Whittle, the agency's spokesperson.

Whittle told The Spectator a wellness check was requested prior to police arrival. He is unaware who made the request.

While we await the outcome of the police investigation we are focusing on the concerns of our residents and staff who have been impacted by this event," said Whittle in a statement.
