2020 saw Tua Tagovailoa and Ryan Fitzpatrick wrestle over the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback gig. Now, with Fitzpatrick gone, cornerback Byron Jones is hopeful Tagovailoa can reach new heights.

"What we saw last year was great from him but we expect a big jump," Jones said on "Good Morning Football," according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "The kid's been working ... Really good head on his shoulders. And that's the beauty of it. We're surrounded by a bunch of good guys who want to be great again."

Jones continued: "So, I'm looking forward to seeing his jump. His contributions to the team have been great so far, but we're looking for even something better this year. It's exciting. I can't wait to see him work his magic."

Tagovailoa averaged just 6.3 yards per attempt and 181.4 yards per game during his rookie season. Additionally, Fitzpatrick replaced him on a couple of occasions down the stretch.

There was speculation earlier this offseason that the Dolphins could look for a new quarterback. However, general manager Chris Grier committed to Tagovailoa in January while head coach Brian Flores noted his excitement for the signal-caller's second season.

Miami has made a few changes in hopes of improving its offense. The team signed vertical threat Will Fuller while George Godsey and Eric Studesville will share offensive coordinator duties after Chan Gailey's resignation.
