Hamilton hits 1,000 active COVID cases for first time in three months
For the first time since January, Hamilton has more than 1,000 active COVID cases.
And for fourth day in a row, Hamilton is reporting more than 100 new COVID cases. The 134 new COVID cases reported Monday bring Hamilton's total COVID cases reported since the pandemic began to 14,238.
There are now 1,028 active cases of COVID within the city. The last time active cases surpassed 1,000 was Jan. 13. Public health defines active cases as those that are open cases actively being monitored by public health and currently undergoing investigation."
The city also reported two new COVID deaths Monday. One person was in their 60s and the other in their 70s. There have been a total of 334 Hamilton COVID deaths since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, Hamilton has 48 active outbreaks.
There is one new outbreak: a Harvey's restaurant at 724 Queenston Rd. has two staff cases.
An outbreak at Providence Canadian Reformed Church, which had 12 patron" cases, is now over.
A total of 103 people are in Hamilton hospitals with COVID.
The city is holding its weekly media briefing today, Monday, at 3 p.m. The Spectator will update this story as more information about COVID cases in the city becomes available.
