Two men from Stoney Creek have struck gold with a pair of winning lottery tickets.

Andrija Konjek, 72, took home $734,061.70 in the March 27 Lottario draw with a ticket he bought at Avondale Food Stores on Highway 8.

The retired grandfather and occasional lottery player said he was in shock when his ticket drew a winning number at the store.

I saw the number 7' and lots of numbers after," Konjek is quoted as saying in an OLG news release. I waited a few days and had my son check my ticket. My wife and I couldn't believe it!"

Konjek said he plans to use his jackpot money for savings and travel when it is safe to do so.

Zachary Thomas, like Konjek, also felt his jaw drop when he won $125,000 in the March 2 Daily Keno 8 Pick draw.

When I realized I had matched all eight numbers my adrenalin went sky high and my heart started pumping really fast!" said Thomas.

The 26-year-old plans to use his winnings to help family members affected by the pandemic.

I get as much joy helping others as I do from winning the lottery," he said.
