COVID-19 tests booked for Saturday at St. Joseph's Mountain COVID-19 testing centre at Mohawk College will be rescheduled, the hospital said, as investigators probe a suspicious fire at the facility.

The Hamilton Fire Department is looking into the cause of the fire, which happened overnight, and has resulted in minor smoke damage inside the building.

Deputy Fire Chief Dan Milovanovic said crews were advised by security personnel on-site that a small desk was on fire. Firefighters extinguished the flame - which had spread to a chair and shelf - and cleared the smoke.

A nearby window had rocks thrown through it.

Hamilton Police also attended the scene to investigate.

People with scheduled COVID-19 tests at the facility Saturday are being asked to call 289-778-1465 to reschedule their appointment, or to do so online at www.HamiltonCovidTest.ca.
