Shutdown fails in linux mint 20.1
by h.c.croon from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5H2BK)
Hi All,
Old desktop upgraded with more RAM: now ddr3 1333MHz 4 GBytes and with SSD Kingston 240 GB.
Installed MINT 20.1 which runs good. But one problem: Shutdown fails in normal shutdown menu. Power LED stays on and fans keep turning.
I tried in terminal: sudo systemctl halt; sudo systemctl poweroff; sudo shutdown (1 min delay); shutdown --poweroff now
All with the same result: it starts but hang in a black screen with only the MINT logo, power LED on and fans turning.
Using restart in the shutdown menu works fine including a short moment that the power LED is off.
This distribution uses systemd.
Details:
Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon 4.8.6
Kernel 5.4.0-72-generic
Intel Pentium G860 3 GHz dual core
Chipset BD82H61
RAM 3.7 GB
SSD 241.1 GB
GPU Intel 2e gen core processor fam integrated graphics controller
I stumbled around with some BIOS settings but with no avail
After searching and trying for 2 days your help will be appreciated very much!
Thanx in advance,
Harry Croon
