The broadcasting watchdog Ofcom has supported the BBC's decision to exclude Alex Salmond and his new nationalist party Alba from a Scottish leaders' election debate and its general election coverage, partly because Alba is very new and has very little support.
Ofcom's elections committee said in a ruling (pdf) the BBC had correctly used its editorial judgement: Alba was only launched four days before the leaders' debate on 30 March, and the broadcaster had covered its launch, its policies and Salmond's speeches in full in other programmes.
