Vikings select QB Kellen Mond in 3rd round
The Minnesota Vikings selected quarterback Kellen Mond out of Texas A&M at No. 66 in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Mond is considered a developmental signal-caller that will likely compete for the Vikings' backup job behind Kirk Cousins in 2021. Minnesota's quarterback depth chart also features Jake Browning and Nate Stanley.
The 21-year-old Mond completed 59% of his passes while throwing for 9,661 yards and 71 touchdowns against 27 interceptions during four seasons at Texas A&M.
Minnesota kicked off its 2021 draft class Thursday by selecting offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw.

Mond possesses numerous traits that NFL teams value in quarterback prospects: he's smart, experienced, poised, and athletic. With this skill set, it's concerning that he never truly enjoyed a breakout season in college. Not the most naturally accurate passer and unable to wow anyone with his arm strength, Mond may have hit his peak already. The former Aggie profiles as a dependable long-term backup with the ability to start in a pinch, as he's experienced in many pro-style concepts and can produce in rhythm.
