Temple of Elemental Evil crashing on exit help?

I am playing Temple of Elemental Evil and it plays perfectly apart from when I quit the game it crashes. It freezes and the only way to exit is to log into the tty1 and "wineserver -k". I used to be able to Alt+F2 to bring up the command box but I cannot now for some reason. I can press Alt+Tab to see the other apps running and I can scroll through them but it won't let me go to anything else hence the Ctrl+Alt+F1.
Using Linux Mint 20 and I think most packages are up to date.
I am using the most up to date Circle of Eight Modpack and I know that in itself will be hard to diagnose because it uses TFE-X and a java runtime and all this but just wondering because it is annoying to have to exit like this every time and then I have to adjust the screen resolution back to normal then too. I suppose I am lucky to have it running this well but would like it better thanks
