Denver Broncos right tackle Ja'Wuan James suffered a torn Achilles while working out away from the team on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

As a result, $20 million of James' contract is in jeopardy.

Broncos' OT Ja'Wuan James' contract tolled last year, so he was playing under his 2020 contract this year, which had $10 million guaranteed for skill and injury, and another $10 million in 2021. So it's a $20 million potential torn Achilles injury today. https://t.co/jj10uOm298

Doctors informed James he may not miss the entire 2021 season, and they'll know more about his recovery timeline after surgery, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

James was previously made the NFL's highest-paid right tackle after signing a four-year, $51-million deal in 2019. He played in just three games that season due to a torn MCL and meniscus, and James opted out of the 2020 campaign.

The six-year veteran was working out at the Broncos' facility before the NFLPA advised players not to attend voluntary offseason programs, according to Mike Klis of 9News.

On April 13, Broncos players were among the first to announce they won't be participating in voluntary offseason workouts, citing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The NFLPA is pushing for all activities to be held virtually, other than minicamps.
