Eagles claim Kerryon Johnson off waivers
The Philadelphia Eagles claimed running back Kerryon Johnson off waivers Friday, the team announced.
The Detroit Lions released Johnson on Thursday, ending the former second-round pick's stint with the club after just three seasons.
He rushed for 641 yards (5.4 per carry) as a rookie in 2018 but hasn't improved his production since. The Auburn product, who missed 14 games due to injury in his first two pro campaigns, had only 52 rushing attempts through 16 appearances last year, finishing third on the team behind Adrian Peterson and D'Andre Swift.
Johnson, 23, will join an Eagles running back depth chart that features Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Jordan Howard, and Kenneth Gainwell, who was selected in the fifth round this year.
Sanders led Philadelphia with 164 carries for 867 yards and six touchdowns on the ground through 12 games in 2020.
