Update Linux 18 to 20.1

Hi,
I'm librarian and our computers (20) are under LinuxMint 18 (Sarah) but it's obsolete.
They're in dual boot Windows 10 / Linux 18 (Sarah) and I'll want to update the Linux version.
But i believe it's impossible to update directy 18 > 20.1
It's easier to uninstall and reinstall linux ? or update to 18> 19> 20 ... ?
I'm newbie and the french forum are not really helpful (sorry for my bad english..)
