Shots fired at Hamilton Mountain home in one of two overnight shootings
Hamilton police are investigating two shootings in the city Wednesday night that investigators believed are linked.
The first happened around 7 p.m. May 19 near Gage Park. Police were called to Cumberland Avenue and Gage Avenue South for reports of a man who fired a gun. No one was hurt.
A 23-year-old suspect was spotted in the area, police said. He was arrested after a short foot chase and a gun was recovered.
The Hamilton man faces seven firearm charges.
Several hours later, just before 10 p.m. police were called to Luscombe and Upper Wellington streets on the Mountain for reports that two suspects had fired a gun at a house, police said.
The pair fled on foot toward Hester Street before police arrived.
Evidence at the scene showed several rounds were fired at a house, some striking the residence, police said. People were home at the time, but no one was hurt.
Detectives believe both shooting incidents were targeted and connected.
Police are asking people in the areas to check security cameras for suspicious activity.
Both scenes were held for a time Wednesday night, but have since been released.
These incidents are believed to mark the night and tenth shootings in Hamilton this year. This includes two people killed and three hurt.
There were 51 shootings in the city last year.
