Denmark passes law to let it relocate asylum seekers outside Europe

UN had opposed bill for fear it will erode refugees' rights and might encourage other EU states to follow suit

Denmark's parliament has passed a law that will enabe the country to relocate asylum seekers to countries outside Europe, in defiance of calls from the UN and NGOs to abandon the plan for fear it will erode refugees' rights.

The passing of the bill, by 70 votes to 24, is an apparent break with the EU's efforts to overhaul Europe's migration and asylum rules, an extremely divisive subject for the bloc.
