Trying to get two computers to use my router...
by FTIO from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5JQTG)
Hi folks,
I've tried reading and studying and researching and I simply don't understand what I'm looking at and the more I read the worse it seems to get.
I just built a new computer. I want to use my old computer *strictly* for running BOINC. My new computer will become my main computer.
I have a Linksys 1900 Router that I installed DD-WRT on and have been using for quite a few years with my old computer.
Once I got the new computer put together, I started my old computer and started BOINC, then moved my mouse and keyboard USB plugs to the new computer and pressed the couple buttons on my monitor so I was seeing the *NEW* computer.
For the heck of it, about a day later I moved my mouse and keyboard to the *old* computer and switched the monitor to see it and found that the old computer can't get on the internet at all, the network is not working, even though it was working when I switched over to using this new computer.
Nothing I do on the old computer is getting through to the internet and I also can't even get to the router. The only thing getting through to the internet is my new computer and only it will get to the router also.
Can anyone please tell me, in simpleton terms, just what the heck I need to do to just get both computers to be able to simply get on the 'net whenever I want (or whenever BOINC needs to send or receive jobs)? I would sure be grateful!
