What is the latest and greatest thumbdrive encryption app?

Need to encrypt a thumbdrive, and looking in google search, I see several results for "flash drive" encryption, which I ASSUME could mean thumbdrives and not just SSD's.
But the posts date from 2017, 2018, 2019, and I have seen forum posts in the past relating problems with hacked encryption apps.
So what is the best current, unhacked ( I hope!) app - still Veracrypt?
Running Mint 18.2, Cinnamon 3.4.3 on an i7 Dell, also have an i7 MSI desktop, B75MA-p45 mobo
