New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore will sit out the team's mandatory minicamp, a source told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Gilmore is holding out for a new contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The former Defensive Player of the Year is currently rehabbing from a partially torn quad.

The 30-year-old, who also missed voluntary offseason workouts, could be fined $93,085 if he misses all three days of minicamp.

Gilmore is entering the final season of a five-year, $65-million pact and scheduled to earn a $7-million base salary.

The Patriots moved $4.5 million of the cornerback's 2021 base salary into 2020, bumping up his total compensation to $15.5 million last season.

Gilmore was the subject of trade rumors prior to the previous campaign's deadline. The veteran played in 11 games in 2020 and had season-ending knee surgery in late December.
