'Beautiful smiles': 3 killed in devastating Milton crash identified as mother, father and daughter
Family members and friends have identified the three people killed in a horrific crash in Milton as a mother, father and daughter from Mississauga.
The victims in the June 19 collision have been identified as Athula Karunananda, 56, his wife, Somikelum Karunananda, 59, and their daughter, 28-year-old Predeepa.
"My heart hurts knowing that we will never meet again. I will always remember all your beautiful smiles," said Calista Mahendra Ariyaratne in a Facebook post. "It will be engraved in the minds and hearts of everyone who knew you."
She and others left heart-warming messages on social media identifying the trio.
Asoka Pinnaduwage, a "schoolmate" of Athula's, said the family were delivering food to a friend that fateful evening. He added that Predeepa passed her nursing exam just days before the crash.
Just after midnight on June 19, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Fourth Line and Britannia Road.
Initial investigation by police indicates that a southbound Cadillac sedan driven by a 28-year-old man from Milton collided with an eastbound sport utility vehicle with the Karunananda family inside.
Two of the SUV occupants died at the scene, while the third died during EMS transport to a trauma centre, police said.
The driver of the Cadillac suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Family members said Athula, originally from Sri Lanka, worked at RBC Financial services and was a former IT manager at Stafford Motor Company Limited.
There will be a private visitation and service (invitation only for in-person) for the Karunananda family this weekend. There is a livestream link for bother services on Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27.
