XF86MonBrightnessDown and XF86MonBrightnessUp present as XF86AudioMicMute

When I press XF86MonBrightnessUp (keycode 233) or XF86MonBrightnessDown (keycode 232), xev says I've pressed XF86AudioMicMute (keycode 198).

I have had this problem before at least twice. Both times it resolved on its own, but I don't know how.

I am using an up-to-date Slackware current on an HP Probook 440 G6 laptop.

I have bound the keysyms XF86MonBrightnessUp and XF86MonBrightnessDown to simple scripts that read from and write to /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=FdM_eB0yPoQ:XRPUmkMKV1c:F7zBnMy latest?i=FdM_eB0yPoQ:XRPUmkMKV1c:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=FdM_eB0yPoQ:XRPUmkMKV1c:gIN9vFwFdM_eB0yPoQ
