Problem installing HP 1020 with LM 20.1

I have recently installed LM 20.1 "Ulyssa" Xfce variant, 64-bit, on my desktop computer. The installation was successful - except that I am unable to install my HP-1020 printer. I have had printer installation problems on earlier versions of Linux Mint - including the 19 that I have upgraded from. However, with help from kind people here, I was able to solve those problems, and was able to use the printer.

The printer is connected via USB, and running lsusb duly shows the printer as being connected.

I read some documentation, and discovered that there might be some ippusbxd file from an earlier version, and I need to delete that. So, I duly ran a rm ippusbxd. There was also something there about installing a file called ipp-usb, so I did that.

I picked up something about HP offering a plugin, so I ran the routine suggested by them, but when I tried to install the plugin, I got a message that the hplip-3.20.11-plugin.run on my computer was probably corrupted - the checksum didn't match - and so the plugin couldn't be installed. But I found no information of what I might do to get an uncorrupt version of the same file.

I remembered using foomatic on earlier occasions, so I tried to download that. But was unable to download the requisite tarball using getweb1020. Again, so explanation as to why I couldn't - nor what I could do to correct that.

I can imagine that by now, my printer installation must be a mess. I would be grateful if someone can help me get around this.

Or should I simply try and reinstall the LM 20.1?latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=g0JGwZ7YPl8:dfiDKGWy5bk:F7zBnMy latest?i=g0JGwZ7YPl8:dfiDKGWy5bk:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=g0JGwZ7YPl8:dfiDKGWy5bk:gIN9vFwg0JGwZ7YPl8
