Help me switch to linux 100%
by knet from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5KN3J)
I have win 7 ultimate sp1 as main os on a HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF with 20GB RAM, 120GB SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 2 GB graphics card from MSI.
Right now this box is basically used by my kids for online class using google chrome plus a windows-only plug and play usb webcam. Everything is working fine.
But I really want to switch to linux now. I am not a gamer and my main program of interest is only Reaper DAW for music production and VLC for watching local videos.
I am slightly familiar with debian and slackware. My plan is to have linux as my host OS and have a win 7 guest OS. What concerns me about this setup is "will my usb webcam work on the win 7 guest os?". I have no idea. I have a very limited knowledge on virtualization. As of now i am just happy testing distros on virtualbox.
Another problem is I've been experiencing "Input Signal Out of Range" whenever i boot linux either by dual booting with windows or by via live usb.
So until i find answers i have to boot on windows.
But what are my options? How do i proceed?
That's it LQ. Thanks in advance.
