Problem doing a clonezilla restore to a VM

I have what seems to me a weird problem that should be simple.

I have a machine with a 250 GB SSD containing the linux OS that I have made a clone of using clonezilla. The original config is 3 partitions on sda, sda1 is efi, sda2 is ext4 (/boot), and sda3 is LVM containing the OS.

The image was created onto a USB stick, and worked well, only taking about 45 minutes to complete.

I am now trying to restore the image to a VM, and there is where I run into problems.
I created a new VM (have tried both QEMU and VirtualBox), allocating 260GB for the drive, and boot the VM with clonezilla to start the restore. I have to allow pass-thru of the USB device holding the image and then the problem begins.
The original device was sda the image was made from, the USB device seen by the VM is sda, and the HDD for the VM is vda. When I mount the usb in the vm for clonezilla to read the image it is unable to restore to the vda device since the original device was sda and there exists an sda (USB) device in the VM.

Does anyone know how to tell clonezilla to read the image from sda and restore it to vda when the original source was sda?

If it matters I did a partimage and not a diskimage.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=AqJbo4NNySg:lexPdoP47jM:F7zBnMy latest?i=AqJbo4NNySg:lexPdoP47jM:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=AqJbo4NNySg:lexPdoP47jM:gIN9vFwAqJbo4NNySg
