[SOLVED] dhcp and slackware current issue
by timsoft from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5KY7K)
hi all.
some background.. I aquired an intel imac with dodgy graphics?. I managed to install slackware64 current on it, despite it having a wiped hard drive, but I have some issues. This question relates to an odd dhcp client issue.
the problem: in setup I selected dhcp for network setup. After installing and restarting, /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf was setup for dhcp for ipv4 as expected, and my dhcp server (dnsmasq running on slack14.2) had dished out an ip to it, but... the netcard was not configured with that ip!. running ifconfig only showed the loopback address 127.0.0.1
to test that the netcard was detected and working, I changed rc.inet1.conf to static address settings as usual, and on restart, they were ok, I could ssh in without problems.
it seems as if the dhcpclient was not fully doing what it should. has anyone come accross this before? I should say I have laptops, tablets and suchlike running fine via dhcp, so the dhcp server is working ok.
