Casting Nexus 5 to TV (hardware or software?

Greetings one and all!
Quick question concerning casting my screen content from my Nexus 5.
Phones see both my Roku stick and my LG TV but will not connect.
Both of these devices work fine with my Nexus 7 tablet running Android.
I have read that the Nexus 5 will not support an external monitor. Do not know enough about Bluetooth to hazard an informed guess.
Any help/advice would be most appreciated....
Bluetooth headphones work fine, by the way....
